Breaking: Mallam Daura calls for Nnamdi Kanu to be ‘brought’ and ‘punished accordingly’

President Buhari’s influential cousin, Malam Adnan Nahabu Daura, has reportedly called for IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to be ‘brought’ to Nigeria and ‘punished accordingly’.

A displeased Daura told Sunday Sun in an interview:

“We have tolerated this Kanu a lot, he has insulted our country, we kept mute; he has insulted our culture , still we kept quiet and now he is insulting our patriotic leaders and we will not keep silent again.

“It is only in Nigeria you will find this rubbish happening and citizens will not take any action because of the acclaimed – democratic rule.

“I think breaching the rights of other citizens in a country like Nigeria is unconstitutional and undemocratic. As such, Nnamdi Kanu must be brought and punished accordingly.”

It is not known if he means Nnamdi Kanu should be extradited from Israel, or whether he means Federal security agencies should attempt to bring him back from Israel where he is suspected to be.

Nigeria currently has no extradition treaty with Israel. So any attempt to extrade him would not be easy.

So, could Malam Daura mean a sting operation by security agents? The Nigerian Government is likely to be hesitant in ordering such. Why? It could lead to a strain in relations between Nigeria and Israel.

During his time as a military Head of State President Buhari ordered Nigeria’s state security operatives to bring back Umaru Dikko, a former minister under President Shagari who was on exile in the UK.

The operation almost succeeded, but thereafter strained bilateral relations with the UK. So, that route is highly unlikely.

Is Malam Daura calling for a citizen’s arrest of Nnamdi Kanu? Israel is likely to view such attempt on its soil negatively, and it would also strain relations with Nigeria.

It is not known exactly what the powerful Malam Daura meant by his statement. He might even have been speaking metaphoricaly.

But one thing is clear: he is not amused by Nnamdi Kanu’s descriptions of his cousin, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Another thing is also clear: the last has not been heard of Nnamdi Kanu and his widely followed broadcast medium Radio Biafra.
