Qatar, an Arabian country may play in Copa America

Inyeresting. They are from the Asian football federation, but may play in South America.

Geopolitics can be very interesting. Apart from sports, I suspect this is a reaction to Saudi- Egyptian efforts to isolate Qatar in the Arabian Peninsula.

Qatar, a small country that tries to punch above its weight can be diplomatically very innovative.

If Qatar can find a way to join NAFTA, it will.

What Made Stephen Keshi Great?

Stephen Okechukwu Keshi was finally buried yesterday in his home town of Illah, Delta State. That we all know.

But what many do not know is what really made this man great, for he was no ordinary football player or coach. This was the second player ever in the whole of Africa to win the African Cup of Nations both as a player and later as a coach.

Stephen Keshi was one of the pioneers of Nigerian football. It was Stephen Keshi who opened the gates for Nigerian stars to start going to play in the lucrative leagues of Europe, when he signed for a Belgian club in the 1980’s. Continue reading “What Made Stephen Keshi Great?”

Mikel To Captain Team Nigeria At Rio Olympics – Sports – Nigeria

The story linked to below says that Chelsea Midfielder Mikel Obi has been chosen to captain Nigeria’s football team at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

It is hoped that he will perform the kind of feat that Kanu Nwankwo performed when he captained Nigeria’s football team the ‘Dream Team 1’ to win Olympic Gold in football.

Nigeria certainly needs the kind of good news that would come from such a victory, given our hard times in football and economic lately.
